The age-old tree

_______________

dry, hard and leafless bald
parched by the scorching daily sun
dehydrated and exhausted through the years
has given up the golden crown
that once was its shining glory

its greens have withstood the power of storms
have fought the torridity of summers
passed the canicular days and defended
the caravans of the deadly heat waves
all have fallen to the ground crisped by age

lived and overwhelmed by a tumultuous era
its past has not been wasted and lost
legions of lives took shelter under its shade
birds have perched on its branches for a hush
small worms and beetles have hungered its touch

its lifeless pile of remains stood bare
keeping in mind its importance i declare
sheltered lives as wood for homes from its carcass
fruits on branches souls it sustained, countless
life’s edge has come being a steadfast witness

as history unfolded
the age-old tree’s existence
will surely be remembered…

    1. Oh !😊 The poem can be anybody else. As I was writing it, I entertained some thoughts of mine that this could be reflected to somebody. (Smiles) I was inspired by this picture and I said to myself, “This could be an excellent prompt “! 😊 Thank you so much for the comment. I love it !
